Weed Measurements Index:
How much is a gram of weed: a gram of weed is the smallest weed amount you can buy at a dispensary and is the best amount to roll a blunt or three joints. It’s the least cost effective purchase but best for sampling strains.
Here is a handy cheat sheet on what 1 gram of weed will give you:

One gram of weed tips: If you choose to buy 1 gram of marijuana then make sure you skip using a grinder (because you lose a % in the grinder teeth’s). It’s best to use your fingers to break apart the gram (learn how to grind weed by hand).
How many grams is an 8th of weed: an eighth of weed is 3.5 grams of marijuana and one of the most popular options at a dispensary. ⅛ th of weed is usually found in a glass jar and provides about 1 week’s worth of smoking.
Here is a handy cheat sheet on what ⅛ of weed will give you:
Price of a 8th of weed based on California market
Eighth of weed last you a week: An 8th of weed is the perfect amount of smoking for a single person in one week. If you pack smaller bowls you can have precisely about two bong rips or pipe hits a day with an 8th of bud.
How much is a quarter of weed: a quarter of weed is 7 grams of marijuana (¼ of an ounce) and provides about 2 weeks worth of smoking. A quarter of cannabis is usually more cost efficient than a gram and eighth of weed.
Here is a handy cheat sheet on what 1/4 of weed will give you:
Price of a quarter of weed based on California market
A quarter of weed is usually priced lower: Dispensaries are constantly flying in new strains. The newer batches are more fresh, so they will need to get rid of their older batches.
Selling in quarters, half ounces, and ounces is their way to get the old stuff out the doors. You can usually find much better deals when buying a quarter of cannabis and higher sizes.
Buying weed in bulk is one of the best ways to save money in 2023 and reduce dispensary trips (saving time and gas). The three most popular weed weights for bulk are the half ounce, ounce, quarter pound, half pound, and pound.
Let’s break down just what each one looks like.
The half ounce and ounce is one of the most popular sizes to buy for bulk.
Depending on your rate-of-smoking, both options can last you an entire month.
We wrote an entire guide on an ounce of weed so make sure to check that out, that teaches you how to save hundreds of dollars a month when buying bulk.
If you smoke once a day then a ½ oz will last you an entire month.
If you smoke 2-3 times a day then 1 oz will last you an entire month.
The quarter pound of weed and half pound of weed are generally weed measurements bought by people who want to resell cannabis.
I wouldn’t recommend buying this much weed because THC degrades at a 1.4% per month rate so you would need to vacuum seal most of it.
If you plan on buying a quarter pound of cannabis or half pound, then check out our article on how long does weed stay good.
A quarter pound of weed will last you four months of smoking everyday.
A half pound of weed will last you 8 months of smoking everyday.
A quarter pound of cannabis is 4 ounces and 112 grams of weed.
A half pound of cannabis is 8 ounces and 224 grams of weed.
Finally, a pound of weed is the largest measurement sold and usually to wholesalers and dispensaries.
A pound of weed is exactly 16 ounces and 448 grams of weed.
The biggest advantage in buying a pound of weed is that you save a ton of money. The biggest disadvantage is the shelf-life and that it is technically illegal to buy in this high of a weed amount.

Before cannabis was legalized, weed was sold by dealers (brave souls) who often sold in dime bags, nickel bags, G’s (gram), and eighths.
Much of the slang is now gone and we buy in the standard gram, eighths, quarter, and half.
Weed is measured in grams, a unit of mass in the International system of units.
Once we get into bulk from a half ounce and up we now measure by unit of weight through uncia, an Ancient Roman unit of measurement.
Typically weed amounts are measured by using a milligram scale.
Your best bet is to use a digital scale that supports at least 500 grams in measurement as that covers everything from a gram of weed, eighth of weed, all the way to a pound of weed!
Here are all the measurements of weed broken down by ounce and gram measurements.
Buying cannabis at a dispensary for the first time can be quite intimidating simply because of the weed measurements.
A gram of weed, an eighth of weed, and a quarter of weed are the most popular options.
One gram of weed is good for a single session.
An 8th of weed can last you about a week.
A quarter is good for about two weeks.
The higher the weed amount the more savings you get, but at the same time too much weed can degrade over time.
Weed sizes depend entirely on your smoking lifestyle and it’s best to start with an 1/8 of weed because it’s the safest amount. Not too much and not too little.
